Many entities in Lovecraft's stories are godlike in power and subject to religious reverence. Lovecraft did not categorize these. Others have attempted to do so, inventing categories like “Great Old Ones”, imagined to be distinct from “Outer Gods” etc. For an example of such a categorization, look up Daniel Harms's “‘Official’ Cthulhu Mythos FAQ”, which has a brief bio for each of the canonical gods.
